Cross-Docking
Cross-docking is a warehouse process where inbound goods are received, sorted, and dispatched to outbound shipments almost immediately, without going into long-term storage. Goods flow across the dock from receiving to shipping — typically within hours — either because they are already allocated to known customer orders or because they are consolidated into store-bound shipments.
Cross-docking cuts storage cost and lead time but requires accurate inbound ASNs, disciplined dock scheduling, and a WMS that can allocate inbound goods to outbound orders in real time.
